Hope is a mural commissioned by the City of Atlanta and completed in 2024. The design is centered around the word Hope and is inspired by the vision of the Diversion Center, to “build hope and create opportunities for well-being and transformational change.” The word Hope is placed at the highest point of the design so it is visible from the street, beyond the perimeter of the fenced courtyard. Once inside the courtyard, viewers will see the word Hope is rising out of a colorful wave of new growth and foliage that has sprung up out of a dark pool. I wanted the design to imply that transformational change is difficult and the wave can be tumultuous, sometimes looping and crashing back into the dark, but with hope and persistence there is the possibility of new growth and reformation.
